NEW SKU DEVELOPMENT IN POSH FMCG BRANDING

UNDERSTANDING OF TECHNICAL PROCESSES
New SKU Development

We develop the approved design concept for the next SKUs of the brand, taking into account their unique features and characteristics. The development strictly adheres to the approved concept, without altering key stylistic elements, principles of text placement, font families, or details that shape the concept’s narrative. This ensures the visual style of the brand remains cohesive across all products.

At this stage, the mockups undergo post-processing of final photos or 3D renders, layout preparation for the final packaging die-cut, application of labeling, incorporation of text revisions, and prepress preparation for the specified printing method and required color count.

A detailed technical specification is prepared for all mockups, indicating materials, color quantities, effects, and special requests. We take care of all technical aspects and communication with the printing house—just connect us with your manager. Additionally, each item will include a 3D visualization of the packaging for future advertising use.

    YOUR QUESTION HAS BEEN RECEIVED

    We are often asked

What is included in the cost of developing an SKU?

    1. Development of the front packaging design layout according to the approved concept and brand strategy.
    2. Development of the design for the side and back packaging, including the layout of technical information.
    3. Making adjustments and incorporating requests related to text and design elements that do not affect the integrity of the brand concept.
    4. Prepress preparation of the design layouts for printing according to the technical requirements of the print shop.
    5. Creating a technical brief for the printing company.
    6. Preparing product visualizations on a transparent background for use in marketing and advertising materials.

New concept vs. new SKU, what’s the difference?

New concept: This involves developing a fresh design idea that sets the overall direction for the brand or product line. It includes creating a unique visual style, identity, structure of packaging elements, and key highlights. It is used for a complete brand overhaul or the launch of a new product line.

New SKU: This is the application of an already approved concept to a specific product within the line. It involves adapting the design (e.g., text, images, color accents) to fit the characteristics of the particular product. It usually does not affect the overall style or identity but focuses on details specific to the product. Developing a concept is a strategic and creative decision that defines the brand’s identity, while creating an SKU is working with the details within the framework of an existing concept.

How is the adaptation to a new size evaluated?

We treat the adaptation of a design to a new size as a full development of a new SKU. While the base design is already in place, the adaptation requires a complete redesign of the layout to accommodate the new format. The process involves the following tasks: Redistribution of design elements. Solving unexpected challenges related to layout and composition. Additional discussions and approvals of details. However, if the number of SKUs exceeds 5, we always look for opportunities to optimize the budget to make the process more cost-effective for the client.
